With the British rule in India, this trend of using ruffles as a form of trimming on Indian Clothing caught on with the Indian women as well. Calcutta being the capital during the British rule, the trend of ruffles established itself strongly amongst women belonging to Eastern India than any other region of India. Initially, ruffles were found along the borders of table cloths, bed spreads, cushion covers, pillow covers, etc. When talking about clothing items, it featured along the hem of skirts and on blouses along the neckline and cuffs.
